It’s my birthday and I am celebrating with the green veggie of practices

For my birthday I’m sharing with you one of my favorite practices again:

Celebrations, Clearings and Desires.

It’s good for all seasons, but it feels especially supportive when marking a transition or milestone like a birthday or anniversary.

It’s like the green veggie of self care in my opinion - a delicious part of every healthy diet!

You can do this practice with a partner - taking turns holding space for each other to share without comment or judgement. You can also do this practice as a journaling exercise.

Step One: 

Speak or write any and all parts of yourself and your life that you feel grateful for, excited and happy about. Continue until you feel you have expressed everything.


Step Two: 

Speak or write anything and everything you need to clear out of your body, brain, energy, consciousness, etc. Continue until you feel you have expressed everything.


Step Three:

Speak or write all your desires. What do you want to call into your life right now?


Here is an excerpt from my journaling over the past few days:


1. Celebrations

*I celebrate my self and my body for dancing for 51 days in a row!

*I celebrate the amazing friendships I am blessed with

*I celebrate Spring! And the birds chirping outside every day and the plants growing outside and the fat bumble bees buzzing around

*I celebrate the wonderful new connections I made this week with 3 women through being interviewed by them for their powerful work in the world

*I celebrate the super fun zoom dance party I hosted last night!

 *I celebrate the fiction book I have been reading. The first book in ages that I feel totally engrossed by (Gideon the 9th, Tamsin Muir)

2. Clearings

I clear anger at our government

I clear fear about Covid

I clear sadness over missing hugs with friends

I clear the pressure of  feeling that I am not doing enough, in many areas

I clear worry over Izzy’s skin

I clear agitation about summer plans with my children

3. Desires

I desire all the plants in my veggie garden to grow really big!

I desire all my new house plants to thrive

I desire to sleep well every night this week

I desire to go hiking somewhere beautiful this week

I desire to go on a really fun road trip this summer

I desire to hug many friends within the next 3 weeks

I desire to spend time in Costa Rica within the next year


Try this exercise once a week for a few weeks and notice if you experience any shifts in your mood, stress level or ability to feel peaceful and happy.
