Everything I need to know about self care I learned by running a soup kitchen

When I was responsible for feeding an average of 500 people per day through a free meal program the biggest part of my job turned out to be managing all the volunteers.

I learned very quickly that this is ridiculously difficult.

I am seriously not exaggerating.

What the Fuck? is my new favorite practice.

I’ve still got nothing but love for my sweeter, gentler practices that focus on mindfulness, compassion, gratitude and love.

However lately I find myself relying more heavily on practices that release frustration, irritation, disbelief and of course, anger out of my nervous system and body.

Are you out of ideas for how to make yourself feel better?

Tantrums are a sure fire way to move stuck energy out of the body. Babies and children know how to do this until they are blocked by adults. Animals do this naturally as well - full body shaking after a frightening event.

How Can You Celebrate Life in a Time of Fear

I do have a weird thing about me that I tend to like crazy times. I am not 100% sure why this is.

It could be a childhood imprint from my mom who always loved thunderstorms and would get so excited when we lost power in the house. It meant a break from the normal routine of rules and structure. It meant more spontaneity and playfulness.

The one sure way to get enlightened

And I have given up SO MUCH SHIT that used to weigh me down. I have truly become lighter using the tools that I share here, in my book and with my clients. My head feels lighter because the overbearing, critical, judgemental voices have quieted down by about 90%.
